A DIY facial scrub that I make at home which works well for me combination-oily skin with enlarged pores. My pores being quite visible on the sides of my nose and on the front parts of my cheeks.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon honey (any home-brand will do, does not have to be some fancy manuka honey, or A grade honey)
1/2 lemon
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil - yes, i do use the ones for cooking
3 heaps tablespoon of regular white sugar. For me, I don't use sugar that is too fine nor too coarse - too fine and it defeats the purpose of exfoliating, too coarse and it starts hurting my skin.
Mix all the above ingredients together, adding more or less sugar as you go along. Ideally, the consistency should be somewhat thick, but not too pasty that you have a difficult time spreading it over your face. Remove any lemon rind that may have gotten into the mixture in the process of squeezing lemon juice into your concoction.
The consistency of the paste in the photo above is slightly more watery that my ideal - in this case, then add 1 more heaped tablespoon sugar.
Keep the paste in a container as it can be stored for 2-3weeks. I would prefer to exfoliate using this DIY concoction at least 2x a week - if I can be bothered, then 3x a week. The act of exfoliating each time should last for about 5 mins. There is no need to leave the paste on for longer after this. Rinse off with lukewarm water, followed by cold water to close up facial pores.
I love the softness and smell of my skin after this!
