Tate Mukai - Omakase Dining Jakarta

Last week we made a visit to Tate Mukai, a Japanese Omakase restaurant in Jakarta located in a Grand Indonesia shopping mall.

As soon as we are seated, the chef starts preparing the food.

I can't say I'm any expert when it comes to eating sushi and sashimi. Though over the years of consuming a fair amount, I know what I like and dislike. Two thumbs up for this. Chutoro is not cold - at room temperature. No fishy smell and literally melts in your mouth. No stringy bits nor uneven texture.

Tuna that has been touched lightly with a long hot metal plate (see photo below). This was very good too, the taste of wasabi and tuna and whatever else garnishing that was used, complemented each other very well.

My first time having cooked tuna and I'd have to say this was totally a miss. The meat was tough somewhat like chicken breast meat - thumbs down for this dish.

If you're looking for an artery-clogging experience, this is definitely your dish. Foie Gras swimming in egg yolk. It was yummy but too rich in taste for me. Needless to say, I was unable to finish the entire cup.

This sushi was offered at the start of our dinner course, right after the chutoro. It was simply delicious I had to request for more! The restaurant kindly did not charge additional for this request. At most omakase restaurants in Singapore, one would normally have to pay additional for whatever additional request was outside of the dinner course (so this was a nice surprise for me). 2 reasons why I chose to order this dish as an additional instead of the chutoro (which don't get me wrong, it's super lovely as well). One, I do have a preference for prawns and Ebi. Two, at the time of dining at Tate Mukai, I am 5 weeks pregnant. (My hubby and I decided to just give this a shot even though no raw fish is allowed/recommended during pregnancy. But hubby promised that it was really nice and that I'd have to have this now instead of waiting for possibly a year before coming back here.) So, instead of ordering raw tuna as an additional order, I ordered this prawn sushi which I loved and also safe for me to eat. :)

Finally, for dessert, a huge-ass bowl of crushed ice mixed with green tea and a scoop of matcha red bean. Not exactly my type of dessert, but I'm not complaining :)

There were a few more other dishes that came and gone pretty fast it was all a blur.

Overall, loved the food at Tate Mukai and would definitely visit again. For this quality of food, we only had to pay SGD170 per head. For the same quality back in Singapore, trust me, we'd have had to easily fork out at least a minimum of SGD350 per head. So, for us Singaporeans, this was considered good value for money. But a quick note to add that SGD170 per person or the equivalent of Rp1,700,000 is considerably pricey by local Indonesian standards. Either way, this is definitely a must-visit when in Jakarta. :)
