We had the privilege of taking the weekend off to a quick getaway to Bali without our daughter in tow.
How we ended up deciding on Alila Villas Uluwatu: we wanted to go to a retreat-like resort/villa to unwind, and someplace that didn't require us to spend to much time in the air or travelling door-to-door. Bali it was then. Though, we were not prepared to venture into crowded spaces of Seminyak nor Kuta. With the help of Google and Agoda, we found Alila Villas, a hotel built right by the cliff-edge at the southern most tip of Bali.
The theme that Alila Villas creates for its guests is one of eco-friendly open spaces. So you'd find the villas start with open-air shower areas the extend to the bedroom which opens directly to the pool area. Very nice if you like airy, unconfined spaces.
Each villa has its own pool with a cabana at the end of the property.
As you can see, the bedroom extends right to the pool - so you can jump right into the pool as you roll out of bed, literally.
Main pool of the resort - their famed sunset cabana in the background.
Alila Villas is built by the cliff side. Private beach can be accessed only by walking down the cliff approximately 650 steps. One way down and only one way up. So after breakfast, we decided to take a walk down to the beach. But I have to say, walking back up is not for the faint of heart. That basically concluded our cardio workout for the day.
The sight that greeted us at the end of our walk down the cliff was not bad. A little alcove area where there is literally no one - so do not be shy to suntan naked or do a little skinny dipping! :) From this shore-line, if you travel down south in a straight line through the Indian Ocean, you'd most likely reach the coast of Australia.
All in all, it was a nice retreat - staff has good service with a discreet manner which appealed to us. You could choose to have your meals either by your own poolside, in the room or in any of their common pool/restaurant areas.
